"The Transporter" Joining "Transformers 4"?

It's been widely rumored over the last 24 hours that Jason Statham is supposedly up for the role of the new lead for the next "Transformers" film. It's also been rumored that the next film is said to be a prequel. It's also been rumored that Tyrese Gibson will become the new lead for the second trilogy.
Statham would be quite good for a new take on the robot fighting franchise. He could take it to a darker, more adult theme. But then again, it would be better if the studio cast a younger guy, like Shia LaBeouf from the previous three films.
