Daniel Day Lewis Up For Role Of Jor-El?

Daniel Day Lewis was rumored to be playing General Zod's partner, Non in "Superman: The Man Of Steel". Now it's rumored that he wont be a villain. He may now be playing Superman's alien father, Jor-El.
I think he'd be a great Jor-El. I wonder why Zach Snyder isn't just using the Marlon Brando footage, like what Bryan Singer did for "Superman Returns" back in 2006.
